Around Lake Toba, return to the homeland...Village Tambunan

Yvonne's father was a " Batak "which means, among other things, that their family name "Tambunan" is also that of the native village. We set off in search of it (based on some more or less vague directions given by an well-meaning uncle). Basically it was said to be located close to Laguboti at the south-eastern end of Lake Toba: More detailed map

We stop-started along several miles of the main road one way then the other a couple of times. Then made a best-guess foray in to an un-related, and so rather mystified, tiny village. Re-grouping at a local 'warung' (corner-shop) we chanced on a young fellow who was himself somehow related to the Tambunan's ~ lo and behold he led us through more miles of paddy-field tracks to the Village Tambunan. What a stroke of luck!

Also on this page highlights of the return drive to Medan along the North-East banks of Lake Toba, calling at: Simalungun Palace, and the Sipisopiso Waterfall.
